How to Use a Drop Zone for Back to School & Back to Office Organization

What is a Drop Zone?

A “Drop Zone” is a place for you & your family to “drop” all of those things that get brought into your home every day. From heavy backpacks full of textbooks to briefcases & laptop cases to sports bags bulging with equipment and even dirty shoes. No matter what you bring into the house that day, your drop zone is there to take good care of it until you need to quickly grab it on your way out the door.

Who is a Drop Zone for?

Anyone! Typically, you may see these spaces for kids as a back-to-school organization hack. But drop zones are actually for all ages. Yes, I’m talking to all of you adults out there – kids or no kids – who are back in the office again and scrambling to remember everything you need for the day. You’d be surprised by how much a hook or two near the door can make a difference for your organization, convenience, & timeliness needs.

How can I get a Drop Zone?

I know you are probably seeing flashing dollar signs right about now but this is one of the easiest and most budget-friendly DIY hacks.

  1. Location
Drop zones come in all shapes and sizes. Some may be as big as 100 square feet. Others, a simple hook or small corner of your laundry room. No matter what the size, the most important factor is location. Make sure you choose the most transient space in your home – wherever you are going in & out of the most.

  1. Make it Yours!
Now it’s time to make this designated space as welcoming & comforting as possible. What quote will send you off feeling ready to conquer the day? Which warm colors & photographs will welcome you home from a long day with love?
